Here’s a recent presentation I did on how to create interesting and functional aquascaping in any reef, FOWLR, or mixed marine aquarium.

A great presentation on aquascaping, indeed! I like how you employ the rule of thirds which comes from photography as well.
So do you have any recommendations on how to build the aquascape? Just stack it, reinforce it somehow, any ideas?

For physical construction, I’ve tried plastic rods, wire ties, and epoxy. By far my favorite is using wire ties.
Very easy to do- just drill a hole using a masonry bit at the ends of both pieces and thread the wire tie through and tighten. I use black ones, which soon get covered with coralline and become invisible.

Just found this, I think its a very good presentation. The only thing I would add is (with respect to reefs only) viewing your rockwork as a canvas for your corals. Some of the “good” examples had rockwork a bit too high and might not allow adequate room for growth. Just a small point tho – excellent work!

The aquascape presentation has been moved to:
http://www.drivehq.com/file/df.aspx/publish/joejvj/aqs/aquascape.wmv
PLEASE- After viewing, copy it to your local hard drive. Due to a high number of downloads, It’s costing me a lot in bandwidth. This will help me keep this blog up and running.
